Don't Y the outputs without a proper passive summing box. The cheapest way to go would be to simply mix everything to one channel, usually the left. You don't have to use both left and right buses. If for some reason you must use both outs, get something like Whirlwind IMP Line Level Combiner. It will ensure less distortion. Also, you can insert the EQ into the main bus channel you want to use instead of connecting it at the output. This will ensure you don't overload the EQ input as the mixer's main out can put out a lot more level than what the insert operates at.
