FX Teleport - first experience (英文)(转帖)

Let me begin by saying I would dearly love for this software to work, however...
I gave it an hour of trials, here's the setup:
Server: 700 MHz Celeron with a 100 baseT LAN card and 256 MB of RAM
Sequencer Host: Asus A7s333 2200+ 1 GB of RAM Delta1010 7200 rpm Audio Disk 100
baseT LAN card
I configured the server with SIR 0861, RGC Audio Triangle 2 and Silver Spike
Ruby Tube. I selected these VTSs because of their stability in my current DAW
setup.
After installing the FX Teleport software on the two machines I used the latest
version of the Cake VST wrapper on the Sequencer Host to load the FX Teleport
plugs it found on the remote Server machine.
Whipped up a 4 bar test sequence in SONAR using a short audio drum loop to act
as timing reference and opened an instance of SIR inserted in the vmains. Worked
perfectly after wanking around with the latency configuration and finally
arrived at about 200 milliseconds latency in the FX Teleport loop using its
auto-sensing function to determine the Ethernet loop characteristics. Not bad.
No dropouts.
Next I opened a synth rack instance of T2. Wanked some more with the latency
settings and finally arrived at a constant 200 ms on each VST (SIR and T2). Not
bad, except the piano roll is about a full beat ahead of the sound at 125 bpm.
If a note is clicked and dragged up and down in the piano roll while the
sequence is rolling then the system becomes very strange as playing the note
preview is attempted. The sequence was 4 bars long and looped beautifully with
the drum loop clip and the T2 in good sync for about 5 minutes with no dropouts.
Inserted an instance of Ruby Tube in the vmain and the wheels came off. The
sequence would play with extreme stuttering and eventually the Sequencer Host
lost communications with the server plugins one at a time over the space of
about 30 seconds. I thought "well, just reload the host app, restart SONAR and
it'll be OK." Wrong, SONAR would not reload the sequence file and, in safe mode,
if I asked it to load any of the remote plug instances (effects or synth) it
crashed immediately.
The server application needs a few indicators to let you know how much CPU is
being used, communications status with the sequencer hot, etc..... It looks like
a good start, but this puppy is not ready for prime time quite yet.
