Steinberg's Nuendo is based on the same audio engine as Cubase 5, so the information in this tutorial can be used for connecting with Cubase 5 as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's start...
First open Nuendo and open a saved project or start a new one.
Now choose Devices->Reason from the menu. Activate at least two channels channels. You can always add more channels later. You should see this:
![]()
As you can see on the image the right channel is Mix L. You can click on it and write Mix R to it. It's something like a small Rewire2 or Nuendo bug. Don't worry about it, because it's just text on screen...
In the Nuendo mixer you'll see these activated channels as well. You can apply effects over them, EQ them and more. Here's an image:
Now you can open Reason. Reason should open normally.
You're now ready to funk! You've opened both Nuendo and Reason by using the perfect Rewire2 protocol! So now you can select Reason devices and send MIDI information from Nuendo to it by selecting the right Reason-device. Here's an image of selecting Dr.REX from a Nuendo MIDI channel:
Now you can also control all Reason devices, by just sending some MIDI information from Nuendo to Reason. And when exporting from Nuendo (rendering it to a track) it will include all Reason tracks, including the effects you have applied over them by using the Nuendo mixer. This is: freaking amazing!
That's all you need to know, well don't forget...

The things you need to know about closing Nuendo and Reason!
Closing Nuendo and Reason has to be done in reverse order.
First close Reason.
Then close Nuendo.
If you first close Nuendo, Reason will crash! So watch out for that one. First Reason then Nuendo!
