(Q)How do I get the playback to hold a note (fermata)? Thank you!

The fermata and pedal markings need to be defined for playback for them to have any effect. (I use Finale, not Allegro, but I think that it is close enough to Finale that the answer is the same.)
To define a fermata for playback, click the articulation tool, click on the note with the fermata, control click the fermata's handle and select "Edit Articulation Definition." Under "Playback Effect," select "Duration" and type the appropriate numbers in the boxes. Be aware, however, that if your fermata is in the middle of the music, the pitches with the fermata will be held while the playback continues on. IOW, the rhythm does not wait for the fermata, so use this method only if your fermatas are at the end of a piece. For fermatas in the middle of the music, you need to create a fermata mark in the Expression Tool and define it for playback using the Shape Designer. (This is a rather cumbersome method and I don't know if Allegro is capable of it. Check the manual for details.)
Pedal markings may be defined for playback using the Expression Tool (if that's how you created them) or the MIDI Tool (if you used the Smart Shape Tool to draw the pedal markings). Once again, I don't know if Allegro has these tools and options, but if it does, the online documentation should give you a pretty good description of how to proceed. The basic idea is to click on the Expression Tool, control click the pedal marking's handle and select "Edit Measure/Note Text Expression Definition..." In the Text Expression Designer dialog box, select "Controller" under the playback options and type 64 in the controller text box and 127 in the set to value box for the pedal down mark. For the pedal up mark, type 0 in the set to value box.
I don't use the MIDI Tool enough to be able to tell you how to create pedal playback with it, but I know that you can. Again, check your manual for more detailed info.

I thought it might be best if I added some more information.
I have added the fermatas using the articulation tool. It seems to have absolutely no affect on the playback. I'm also noticing that adding the pedal (Ped) with the articulation tool has no affect on the playback either. It's as if Allegro is just ignoring them.
I have set the playback the following settings checked in the playback options:
+ Play recorded key velocities
+ Play recorded note durations
+ Play recorded continuous data
+ Play recorded tempo changes
And I have set the Dynamics and Markings option to Chase from Measure 1.
I'm using internal playback through my Mac with Bose speakers. I am able to play CDs on my Mac with wonderful clarity so I know my computer and speakers are capable of handling musical playback just fine.
Why does the playback in Allegro seem to ignore the fermatas and pedal markings? What am I doing wrong?
