Can you recommend some effect for use in breakbeat production?

Being a breakbeat composer myself, I can strongly recommend the following ;)
Pi Warp from prosoniq - infact most anything from prosoniq will do you
justice!
Waves plugins -
GRM Tools Vol 1 & 2 - great morphing effects (know you'll love it!)
Spectral delay this is great for creating background ambience personally
Granulab - whoa!!! what can I say!!
Quadrafuzz - ;) (try applying this to a few percussion samples!)

Some of the ultrafunk and hyperprism plugs are ok, but I've only seen them
second hand... I don't really know how to tweak them to the best of my
ability without buying them so I'll wait till I get more cashola.

I'm sure there are many more, but these are the main ones I use apart from
chaining various plugins together to get desired effects. Bitcrusher with
autofilter and automation can create some good effects for example...

Just play with what you've got, but the above is a good starting point.

I would also recommend Rebirth for percussion, Battery ditto, and maybe
reason (although I didn't really like the demo all that much)... Don't use
rebirth for the 303's unless you are going to make it NOT sound like a 303!
Personal taste again, but its up to you. As far as instruments go, ummm
I've seen a few but really the EVP88 to operate a bassline with quadrafuzz
is wicked. Again I've only seen this second hand as I don't have the EVP or
the ES-1 (oh yeah - apparently the ES1 is great for basslines, too!)... I
just use my trusty outboard gear for this purpose.
