Standards 主流爵士乐
主流这个术语实际上是爵士乐的一位评论家斯坦利·丹斯创造的，他在描述五十年代的小号演奏家巴克·克莱顿和他同期音乐家的演奏时首次使用了这个词。这些音乐家大多都是摇摆乐时代的资深音乐家，他们并不是使他们的风格现代化，并不演奏波普爵士乐，或是加入五十年代重新兴起的迪克西兰乐队，从前的大乐队时代的明星们以小乐队的形式演奏昔日的标准曲，并获得巨大的成功。其中的代表人物是Coleman Hawkins，Lester Young，哈里·埃迪森和罗伊·埃尔德里奇。主流爵士乐在五十年代时留下了大量精彩的录音，但是一直因其它风格爵土乐的成功而未受到重视。在六十年代其主要人物相继故去，然而在七十年代，随着次中音萨克斯管演奏家斯克特·汉密尔顿和沃伦·瓦奇的崛起，以及以主流爵士乐为其主要特色的协和唱片公司的出现，主流爵士乐重新受到了人们的关注，并一直延续到今天。
