Thanks for reaching out. You are able to use StaffPad on a Mac, however there are some caveats. Currently, StaffPad for Apple devices isn't fully compatible with Macs, only iPad. Regarding Mac compatibility, it comes down to the issue of Macs not natively supporting a touch screen, or the Pencil. StaffPad requires pen and touch sensors that work together in order to make the app work the way it should, and feel natural, which is why it is only fully offered for iPads at this time. In essence, StaffPad on Mac is read-only. If you do decide to go along with downloading it on your Mac, it can be a little tricky - you are able to download and run StaffPad on MacOS, but but the way Apple has set it up makes it seem like you can't. When downloading StaffPad on Mac, you won't have to buy it again, but for whatever reason due to how the iPad and Mac App Stores communicate with each other, it'll look like you will, which is confusing. This is a quirk of Apple's that we have to work around for the time being. You'll want to make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID as your iPad, then go through all the 'purchase' steps. At the very last step, the App Store will recognize that you do in fact own this app, and allow you to download free of charge. Note that this is only available for Apple Silicon Macs - the M-series.
