Can I record using “natural” reverb?
Although we’ve spent years trying to replace it, there’s a great case to be made for natural acoustic reverb. The a capella groups of the ‘50s and early ‘60s, who found the perfect stairwell to rehearse in, as well as the dedicated bathroom singer who swears he sounds just like a rock god (taking a shower!), both know the beauty of the acoustic chamber. Remember: every room has different acoustic properties. If you think your acoustic guitar sounds good in the tiled bathroom, try recording it there. If your vocals sound good in the kitchen, record in the kitchen. For a great spacious clap sound, try the basement or an empty apartment. Who needs a room simulator when you’ve got the room?
