------------
Installation
------------
Installation in Windows 3.1x:
-----------------------------
This version of PoINT CDR Dlls do not work in Windows 3.1x and cannot
be installed on this platform.
Remark for installation in Windows 95/98/Me
-------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT !!
Please disable the 'auto. notification of media changes' (see control panel ->
system -> device manager -> CD-ROM -> <your recorder> -> properties -> setting).
RESTRICTION OF WINDOWS 95 !!
In older versions of Windows 95 (up to 4.00.950a) PoINT CDR Dlls can support
only one connected ATAPI drive. In case you are using one of these versions
and if you want to connect a CD-ROM drive and an additional CD recorder,
please connect both drives to the same IDE channel. Configure the CD-ROM
drive as IDE master and the recorder as IDE slave. PoINT CDR Dlls will then
find and support the recorder.
ASPI LAYER !!
ATAPI drives are fully supported in Windows 95/98/Me. Unfortunatelly some
software products install an incompatible ASPI manager which makes it
impossible to access ATAPI drives. In case that PoINT CDR Dlls does not
find ATAPI drives although available, please solve the problem by either
installing an ASPI update e.g. from Adaptec (
www.adaptec.com) or, in
extreme cases, install Windows 95/98/Me again over the existing installation
to replace incompatible by original modules.
USB DRIVES !!
PoINT CDR Dlls fully supports USB drives on Windows 98 and Windows Me
platforms. On Windows 95, USB drives are not supported.
FireWire (IEEE-1394) DRIVES !!
PoINT CDR Dlls fully supports FireWire drives on Windows 98 and Windows Me
platforms. On Windows 95, FireWire drives are not supported.
Installation in Windows NT 4:
-----------------------------
IMPORTANT !!
The standard CD-ROM driver of Windows NT 4.x up to and including service
pack 3 allocates and locks kernel memory during operation. With service pack
4, this problem has been solved by Microsoft.
Since this memory is never released, the system may fail if you record more
than one CD. There is no work-around for this problem on application level.
Therefore please replace the original CD-ROM driver of Windows NT 4 with
the driver which is delivered with CDR Dlls. The name of the original
driver is CDROM.SYS, it is located in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. If you
want to restore the original driver at a later time, please make a backup
copy of this driver before you install CDR Dlls.
If you do not want to replace the original driver for any reason, please
disable the standard CD-ROM driver before you record your CDs. You may
find the driver in the control panel under devices, it's name is 'Cdrom'.
It is recommended to create a second configuration first, and to disable
the driver in this configuration.
USB DRIVES !!
Windows NT does not support USB.
FireWire (IEEE-1394) DRIVES !!
Windows NT does not support FireWire.
Remark for installation in Windows 2000
---------------------------------------
IMPORTANT !!
On systems with multiple processors, install service pack 2 or higher.
USB DRIVES !!
PoINT CDR Dlls supports USB drives on Windows 2000 platforms. Please note
that drive letters must be assigned to the drives, otherwise the drives
will not be recognised.
FireWire (IEEE-1394) DRIVES !!
PoINT CDR Dlls supports FireWire drives on Windows 2000 platforms. Please
note that drive letters must be assigned to the drives, otherwise the
drives will not be recognised.

Specific comments/restrictions:
-------------------------------
- Grundig CDR100IPW,
HP 4020I,
Philips CDD2000,
Plasmon CDR4220
Firmware revision 1.20 does not support sub-indexes and
reverses the audio channels; use revison 1.25 or above;
this revision can be obtained from Philips
(philips.com in the world wide web)
- JVC XR-W1001,
JVC XR-W2001,
Pinnacle RCD-1000
Those JVC drives which do not support DAO write all tracks
at once; therefore no link blocks (no errors or noise) is
added between audio tracks; only between lead-in area and
first track and between last track and lead-out area link
blocks are inserted; link blocks at these positions normally
do not cause errors and the resulting discs are perfect
Catalog numbers (UPC/EAN) and ISRC are not supported by
these drives
- JVC XR-W2010,
Pinnacle RCD5040
Catalog numbers (UPC/EAN) and ISRC are not supported by
these drives.
- Kodak PCD225,
Philips CDD522
Firmware revisions 1.04 to 1.06 theoretically support DAO
recording, too, but in practise it does not work reliably;
therefore drives with these firmware revisions should not
be used at all
- HP 7100i/e
7100i is an ATAPI drive.
7100e is connected to the printer port of a PC. This drive
drive did not work reliably at 2x speed during our tests.
Please check carefully the performance of your system by
simulating the recording of several disks at 2x speed. In
case that problems occur, record at 1x speed.
The drives do not allow to modify the length of pauses at
the beginning of tracks in track-at-once mode. The default
length is 2 seconds.
- HP 72xxi/e
72xxi is an ATAPI drive.
72xxe is connected to the printer port of a PC. If you use
this drive, please check carefully the performance of your
system by simulating the recording of several disks at 2x
speed. In case that problems occur, record at 1x speed.
The drives do neither support DAO, nor do they allow to
modify the length of pauses at the beginning of tracks.
The default length is 2 seconds.
- HP 8xxxi
The HP 8xxxi drives are ATAPI drives.
The drives do neither support DAO, nor do they allow to
modify the length of pauses at the beginning of tracks.
The default length is 2 seconds.
- HP 9xxx
The drives do neither support DAO, nor do they allow to
modify the length of pauses at the beginning of tracks.
The default length is 2 seconds.
- _NEC NR-7500A
This drive does not support sub-indexes and cannot record
more than about 90 tracks in disc-at-once mode.

These drives do not correctly disconnect from the SCSI bus
during recording.
- Ricoh RO-1420
This drive does not correctly disconnect from the SCSI bus
during recording.
Furthermore RO-1420 does not support copy protection bits
(see on-line help). Copy protection will always be on.
- Sanyo CRD-BP4
The drive does not support sub-indexes on audio CDs.

these drives
- Sony CDU928
This drive does not support DAO, but it allows to vary the
lengths of pauses. However, even if the length is set to 0,
2 run-out blocks are always added between subsequent tracks.
Additionally, the current versions of the drive do not
work under Windows NT.
- SAF CD-R4006,
Yamaha CDR400
The comments below are valid for firmware revision 1.0a
only. In firmware revision 1.0b or above, all of these
problems are solved.
With firmware 1.0a, these drives do not disconnect from the
SCSI bus during writing. Thus, the SCSI bus is permanently
claimed by the drives, communication with other connected
drives cannot take place. In other words, these drives must
be connected to a separate SCSI adapter. DO NOT connect any
other drive to the same bus. Otherwise writing will not be
reliable because Windows forces hard resets on the SCSI bus
if the other drives do not respond. PoINT CDR Dlls prints
"Drive not ready" in this case.
With firmware 1.0a, ISRC codes and catalog numbers (UPC/EAN)
are not correctly recorded by the drives.
- Yamaha CDR100,
Plasmon CDR4400
Firmware revision 1.08 adds noise to the end of the last
audio track; either set the copy protection bit for all
tracks or try to get a new firmware revision to avoid
the click noise
