ASIO FX Processor is a VST 2.0 and ASIO 2.0 host combined in a standalone application that works as a real-time multi-effects processor and can be used for playing live VST instruments such as Steinberg Halion, Native Instruments Pro-51, Waldorf PPG Wave and many more.
This means that you can plug an audio source, like a guitar, microphone, external synth out for example, into input of your audio card that supports ASIO 2.0, run the ASIO FX Processor, select the input you would like to take the sound from and output for monitoring, load VST plugins you want to process the sound in real-time and start the streaming. The application will take the sound from card's input, pass it through the loaded VST plugin and output it back to audio card output for monitoring.
Besides working as a real-time effects processor the application includes supports of VST instruments, so you can also load one VST instrument and play it live with any MIDI source like keyboard or from your sequencer through a midi loopback driver. The delay between audio or midi input and audio output will be very low, just unrecognizable for most of pro audio cards available on the market. The audio output of VST instrument can be further processed with plugins loaded into the rest three slots.
ASIO FX Processor supports running multiple instances, so if you need to process more than one input you can run a second ASIO FX Processor instance and set it to take sound from other input. The outputs can be the same - ASIO driver will mix the signals automatically and in-sync. The state of the application that includes loaded plugins, their state and setups, midi map and I/O routing can be saved as setup file, so that you can quickly restore the multi-instance configurations.
The application provides automation of plugin parameters through MIDI, so you can use your external MIDI controller or a sequencer through a loop-back driver to control plugin parameters in real-time and record back the changes. A convenient MIDI map editor with a learn function is available within the application.
You can map MIDI program change messages to plugin programs. This way you can switch VST plugin presets externally.
The application interface is pretty straightforward. ASIO FX Processor is designed so that a loaded plugin would not show up in a separate window as it makes it hard to manage multiple windows, instead the application window is resized so that it wraps the plugin window. Below is a screenshot of the application with three loaded plugins.
Plugins are loaded into four available slots that are represented as a list. The topmost list item is the first slot. The application shows and wraps around a window of a VST plugin loaded into currently selected slot in the list. Below is a screenshot of ASIO FX Processor 1.2 with three loaded plugins.
